One thing that I have found over time, on many projects is that once you have a project underway and people relying on your decision making, it is important to plan your day and your project one step at a time. yes keep the ultimate goal in mind however be flexible with your day to day decisions and planning as your navigate the labyrinth of life as Victor Hugo writes

Sometimes the enormity of what you trying to achieve can be overwhelming if you allow the scale of the project to be your only focus.

Yes plan for the future and have a general idea of the big picture; however to get a project completed will rely on breaking it into manageable steps which all lead to the big goal.

Each day becomes a subset of the whole.

Enjoy it, resolve the issues of the project expeditiously , make lists, review where you are and keep adjusting you plan.

It is like the navigation system on an aeroplane which is constantly adjusting for changes in weather conditions and other planes. They have a general goal , however they not always aiming directly at the target. They sometimes are aiming slightly away from the target as this is the path of least resistance in that moment and if they trust they will keep adjusting and reviewing their big picture plan to achieve their destination.

As always Plan First and be flexible to adapt, be decisive  and adjust that plan.

In this way you will save time and money on your project.

Project Planning is all about looking at the big picture and yet being aware that each day has the ability to slightly alter the plan due to many factors including materials being early or late in delivery, tradesmen not turning up and even the wonderful universal weather of sun, rain and wind.
